• Pick a day to sort through family clothing that needs mending. Show the children how to sew buttons on or evaluate the nature of the problem. Discuss solutions. Tie-dye clothing that is stained or make a pile for the consignment shop. Use the clothes as a vehicle for sparking your child’s memory. "When was the last time you wore this outfit? How did it make you feel? Would you like to buy something like that again? How have your tastes changed?"
